SALEM — October in Salem is very exciting, and very busy! The House of the Seven Gables has got a few tips and tricks for those who are planning to make the trip this year.
Advance Tickets: Attractions tend to sell out quickly in October, so purchase your online tickets early. Advance online ticket purchases will be required at The Gables for both our Guided Tour Package and Grounds and Gardens experience in October.
Halloween costumes: We love seeing visitors get into the spooky spirit with fun and creative costumes. We suggest, however, that you leave props and large headdresses/costume elements in your car when visiting indoor attractions, especially The Gables. With our low ceilings and old staircases, some costumes can become a tripping hazard. If you purchase a guided tour, please note that costume masks cannot be substituted for the face mask requirement.
Dining: Many Salem restaurants do not take reservations during October, and wait times can be very long. We suggest scheduling about two hours per meal to make sure you have time to eat and get to your next stop. We also suggest packing snacks to keep you fueled throughout your visit.
Weather: New England weather can be wild! Be sure to check the weather each day before heading out, and pack layers and rain gear for your trip. You will also want sturdy shoes, as you will definitely be doing a lot of walking throughout the day.
Finally, please keep in mind that all staff and volunteers in Salem are working hard to provide visitors with fun, safe experiences; but with widespread staffing shortages we ask that all visitors pack their patience when visiting.
By taking these simple steps, you will have a much more comfortable and enjoyable visit to Salem during Haunted Happenings.
