Newburyport – Terence (Terry) A. McGinnis has joined the Bank’s leadership team as Executive Vice President & Chief Legal Counsel. In that role he will assist the Bank in crafting communications with regulatory agencies, assist in developing best practices in corporate governance, assist in evaluating potential mergers & acquisitions, and be a trusted counsel for the Board of Directors and Executive Management team in handling the challenges that arise in managing a growing bank. He will report to Lloyd L. Hamm, President & CEO of Newburyport Bank.
Mr. McGinnis has had a long and distinguished career. He served as Massachusetts Commissioner of Banks supervising 200 state-chartered banks and credit unions. Prior to that he was EVP and General Counsel at Eastern Bank for more than a decade. He also held senior legal positions at Bank of Boston and Fleet Bank. In terms of government experience, he was the Associate Counsel to the Committee on Rules of the U.S. House of Representatives. Mr. McGinnis is an honors graduate of Merrimack College, and earned both his Master’s and Law Degrees from Boston College. He served in the US Navy in both active duty and reserve roles, retiring at the rank of Captain in 2001.
